It's Effective

A study published in the British Medical Journal observed that patients with pain seen by chiropractors were significantly better within six months and remained so during the two year follow up period compared to the patients seen by traditional outpatient hospital doctors. Chiropractic care was more effective and less expensive than traditional medical treatment. They also missed less time from work. This study involved 741 patients in a randomized, controlled clinical trial.

It's Safe

The New Zealand Government Commission’s report is one of the most detailed studies of chiropractic care. The study concludes: “Spinal manipulation therapy in the hands of a registered chiropractor is safe…and can be effective in relieving musculoskeletal symptoms.”

It's Affordable

A comprehensive study known as the Manga Report on the cost effectiveness of chiropractic was commissioned by the Ontario government. Researchers found that patients who receive chiropractic care, either solely or along with medical care, experienced “significantly lower health care costs.”

Dr Kirkaldy–Willis, a world renowned spinal researcher, suggests that the best way to care for a disc protrusion is to try conservative management techniques. He recommends chiropractic care, exercise and education. Cassidy JW, Kirkaldy-Willis WH, McGregor M. Many studies have documented the effectiveness of chiropractic. However, the most convincing proof is that each day millions of people worldwide turn to chiropractic for their health care.

Treatments

Cox Flexion Distraction

Cox lumbar flexion distraction is a spinal decompression therapy for the relief of lower back and leg pain. Imported specialised tables perform this non-surgical technique.

This treatment lowers the intra-discal disc pressure and allows bulging discs to be reduced.

Common conditions that are able to be helped by this technique are:

  • Lumbar disc prolapse – bulging disc.
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Sciatica or radiculopathy
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Facet Syndrome
  • Lumbar or Pelvic restriction
  • Post surgical lumbar spine pain

Dr Paul Willis is New Zealand’s only certified chiropractor of Cox Flexion Distraction.

Applied Kinesiology

Dr Paul Willis became certified in Applied Kinesiology in 2001. This is a technique that evaluates normal and abnormal body function and nerve function using muscle testing. Specific muscles relate to different parts of the body including organs. A muscle tested will either be normal, weak or over working. The cause of the “weakness” can be physical (nerve irritation), chemical (nutrition/vascular), or emotional (stress). A weak muscle is usually associated with an overworking muscle elsewhere. The correction of the weak muscle will often inactivate the overworked muscle, which relieves the symptom.

Activator Technique

Activator is a gentle, low force specific adjustment technique using an instrument. It can deliver a rapid impulse (push), in a very specific direction with a very specific amount of force. It has its own assessment using leg length tests and reflex points. It incorporates the latest advances in orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic examinations along with a unique system of administering spinal adjustments. This technique utilizes specific procedures to detect spinal joint dysfunction, analyse leg length inequality, detect body mechanical problems, and test neurological reflexes.

Our chiropractors have been trained in many forms of delivery of the spinal adjustment. They are members of the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association.
